For Fathers Day my family decided to get together and eat crabs. Before we were supposed to meet up my mom calls me and asks me to pick up some potato salad on the way. No big deal right?

I swing by the new Kleins Shop Rite because it was easier to pull into. Making my way to the deli counter I notice people standing in lines waiting to be served. So I of course get in one and wait my turn. After a few minutes the clerk finishes with the person in front of me and then he just walks off.... I wait for a few seconds until it becomes clear that he is just doing some busy work before I ask if I could get some help. The clerk looks at me and then says "we go by numbers here" and looks at a now serving sign above his head. Keep in mind the whole time I was standing there, not once did any of the clerks call out a number or ask for a ticket from anyone. I look around the counters, and no where do I see any kind of device to get a number from. So I ask the clerk, "Ok where do I get the number tickets from?" he just looks at me like I'm some kind of alien and then goes back to what he was doing.

I walk out and happily go to the Giant down the street where there wasn't even a line. That being the last time I will ever be going to the Shop Rite again.

WOW yeah I dont get why it was such a big deal and why that guy wouldn't just wait on you or at least tell you where to find the number thing! I would so call or write to their main office telling them you where unfamiliar with that store and the clerk behind the counter was extremely rude to you and that you where more then happy to spend your money at a store that was more accommodating! UGH working at a Grocery store I have issues with people that have horrible customer service skills .

a lot of that really comes from people who just don't care. And the business really doesn't care enough to make sure their employee's care.

Most business do better when the lowest employee cares about the business. Trouble is it costs money to get that level of commitment, and even though the return is well worth it, most places don't see it that way.

"we go by numbers here. if you don't have a number, then we don't serve you." what?!!! i wonder what was wrong with that guy. he should have had some respect and told you where the number thing was. or , they still have respect, just lose the numbers. just be friendly and serve whoever walks up, right? no numbers needed. that's what people with respect and gratitude do. that guy had neither. he had to tell you rudely to get a number. and when you asked where the numbers were, he had to stare at you like you were stupid. which you're not. so you made a good choice to never go back there again.
