So once again I will be at
Otakon. And once again I am surprised at the lack of Industry support. Especially in lieu of a huge increase in attendance.
Otakon is the largest Anime/Japanese Culture convention in the USA, next to
Anime Expo (AX). Yet the Industry room this year again only has 2 studios with some rather small displays. The rest of the huge dealers room is filled with several small vendors. While there is a large number of vendors, it amazes me that there is such a lack of involvement of any named companies.
I first came to
Otakon back in 2005. At that time there were several studios distributing amine and the industry room was completely filled with actual Industry booths and displays. I do realize that a lot has happened since then, but at least back then there was obvious signs of support and people to talk to about what is coming next. Now it seems like it's the fans that really keep this alive and the big companies just don't care anymore.
And then ofcourse there is the fact that this year the line to pick up badges at pre-reg started at 5pm, and did not end until midnight. Which is much longer then previous years.
But all that aside, it still is a lot of fun. and I am looking forward to this year as well.
