So with the money from tax time I decided to finally fix/change something that has been bothering me for awhile.
Like every respectable computer geek/nerd etc, I've been using two monitors hooked up to one computer. However, also like every computer person just out of high school, I didn't have a lot of money to start with. So, that translated to me buying the monitors at different times, and not being able to buy two of the same monitors. On top of not even having the same two model/brand monitors, they are also different sizes. One is a 17" and the other is a 19". If your asking why I did this, I will point you back 3 sentences to something about money! At the time all I really cared about was the fact that I was able to have two flat panel monitors for my computer. (back in 2002 this was a BIG deal)
Over the past few years the novelty wore off as flat panels became more the mainstream. So the size difference started to become more annoying. Even more so if I had both monitors at the same resolution. But a good flat panel is still not cheap, so I kept putting off buying new ones. Then a few weeks ago I was at my friends house and noticed he had finally ditched his CRT monitor for two flat panel's. He had two sweet looking wide screen's, same brand, same model, same size. Then he told me how much he got them for and I suddenly realized I now make more then enough money to finally upgrade mine.
So long story short. I went online and found a monitor I really like for a decent price, and I got two for myself. Now just to brag, these monitors are really awesome and feature rich. Besides looking cool, they have 2 usb ports built into the side. Which make connecting flashdrives and other things that much more convenient. And the one thing that really sparked my interest was its ability to turn on it's side into landscape mode. Those of you that have already looked at the second link will have already noticed this. According to the software that came with them, they are supposed to be able to tell when your turn them on the side and adjust your screen to fit. However, I've noticed that the software seems to not be able to tell that I have TWO connected, and thus does not automatically switch.
So now that I finally have two monitors of the same size/model, I think it's only ironic that even still they are not quite the same size and will most likely stay like this.
Soo I finally bought my plane tickets which means it's now official!!!! I'm going to the San Diego Comic Con. I'll be arriving late Wednesday night, so even though I do have tickets for the preview night, I won't be able to attend it. No real biggie as I don't plan to spend much money there.... seriously I know thats what your "supposed" to do there, but I really just want to go for the experience and to be able to say "ya I've been to that".
I'll be staying with an old friend while out there to cut down on costs because well I don't even want to know how much a Hotel costs during that weekend. But I'm sure they are all way overpriced for that weekend. After all they don't call it an "International" event for nothing!
Anywho more info to come as I get it.
In about an hour from now I will be on a plane heading to Phoenix, AZ., and then from there on to California. And so begins my Comic Con Adventure.
At the moment I am sitting in a US Airways Club Lounge (courtesy of a free pass from my credit card), and I gotta say, I wish I had done this before. There are comfy chairs all over the place, access to power outlets, and best of all.... FREE soda and snacks!!!! I am told this location no longer has a bar and the wi-fi access is provided by T-mobile, and thus not free, (I'm currently using my cell phone to get net access) but this still by far beats sitting in the airport terminal and paying high $$$ just for water. I could really get used to this ![]()
Currently the sky in the distance is very dark, and some flights have already been delayed, and others canceled. However, most of those flights are to locations on the east coast and I am heading to the west. Which I am hoping means my flight will still be on time as it is still listed as such. Although if it does get delayed, I won't mind the extra time spent in the "club" lounge.
Right now I am watching my plane pull into the terminal. So it looks like I'll be leaving here soon. More to come later + photos.
In my last post I mentioned that at the airport I could see dark sky in the distance. Well, after I landed here in California, I found out that an hour after my plane left, some very nasty storms moved into the area and delayed/canceled almost all flights out of BWI for several hours. Lucky me I guess since my flight and connection in AZ were both on time.
Moving on, this was my first time flying First Class. Yeah me!! I willingly paid the extra cost because this would be the third time I've flown from coast to coast. And I've learned something from those last two flights. That sitting 4-5 hrs in those cramped coach seats is about as much fun as wrestling two heavy weight sumo's at the same time. And being as tall as I am, those seats are extremely lacking the the leg room I need.
So there I am, getting on the plane and taking my seat up front in the first class section. Woohoo!!! Right away am ecstatic about the comfy seat with the extra leg room. Plus I found out that the seats even have these flaps by your head you can pull out to lean your head against. Which make getting that quick nap even more comfy and easier. Even the fold out seat tray was larger and better then coach.
Beyond the comfy seats, I was aware that the alcohol is free in first class. I took advantage of that since they served Bailys Irish Cream... mmmmm! However, when they come around to get your drink order, they also bring a tray of free snacks too. Double score! One other thing I did not expect, but should have known, is that the food options were much different as well. Instead of the usual boxed lunch sandwich or snack box, I dinned on a nice cooked salmon and rice served with half a lemon, Romain lettuce salad with cherry tomatoes and almonds, and a roll with butter. All on real plates and real silverware, even with a small mini salt and pepper shaker. Not only did it look good, but it all tasted VERY good too!!
Needless to say, I really, REALLY enjoyed my flights over, and I look forward to my flights back home. Now I also mentioned photos in my last post. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble pulling the pics off my phone at the moment. But I do promise to have pics in my next post which will cover the Video Games Live concert I am attending tonight!
